Portfolio Overview

Abay Industrial Development SC has various projects and programs planned to be implemented in the short-, medium- and long-term arrangements based on business feasibility, precedence and resource availability.

The number of projects or programs outlined during the company's establishment were 22, focusing on industrial development, manufacturing, agricultural investment and trading business activities. The number of planned investment intervention areas have increased from 22 to 24 in the revised company formation proceedings ratified during the general assembly meeting held on 16th of May 2026.

Abay's overall strategy in implementing its portfolio is to plan, study, design, implement, commission projects and, establish independent legal entities as they go operational, by carefully crafting the independent companies' governance structure (management and board of directors) and their linkage with the corporate structure.

Investment decisions are made on the two of these planned programs: a 5,000 TPD capacity Green Field Cement Plant Project, being implemented near Dejen town and a Garment Industry established in Gondar town. The garment industry is already operational, having its own organizational structure and board of directors while the cement industry is at project implementation phase being managed by Abay's corporate structure tailored to meet the establishment of an independent cement industry company when the project implementation is completed. The implementation of other projects and programs will be targeted by Abay in the short-, medium- and long-term settings based on priority and resource availability.

Short-term Projects

  • Mining company — this investment intervention will be in the coming one year, which has to be implemented in line with the operational requirements of the cement plant project as a major raw material supply firm.
  • Packaging industry — establishing a packaging industry is also an intervention planned to be implemented in the coming year as it must be integrated with the commissioning of the cement plant project for a dependable supply of cement packaging materials.
  • Transport company — this will be realized to become an important logistic company in the supply of inputs and distribution of products of the cement production industry.

Medium-term Projects

  • An MDF Project — a wood processing plant project planned to be implemented in Debre-Tabor town.
  • Sugar project — an agro-industrial manufacturing complex sought to invest in agriculture, infrastructure and processing industry targeting sugarcane production and processing.
  • Textile industry — a project planned to play a backward integration role for the production and supply of raw materials or fabric to the garment industry.

Long-term Projects

All the balance of projects and programs included in Abay's portfolio will be planned and implemented based on priority criteria and availability of resources for their realization. Every intervention will be subject to sound study and techno-commercial feasibility as well as social & environmental sustainability.
